Bfs Mac update

I just realized i never did post an update on the the bfs mac...

Carbon couldn't find anything "wrong" with the mac. and it was given back. Since then every time you move it, the battery and power plug needs to be fiddled with just right so that it won't die within minutes. die as in, not only shuts down, but simply turns off. Needless to say, the MacBook is useless now except for watching movies and surfing... sometimes.. as with mine! a combined $8000 well spent!

from a friend...

i haven't updated in a while, mostly because i now have a PC on my desk that does the real work, and my mac is mainly used for surfing and msging, which is seems to be able to handle most of the time. but i thought i'd update this time with an email i received from a friend who recently put together a Hacintosh.

.....

fucking Mac!!!
Who the fuck wrote this crap, I was importing pictures into iphoto
from my server. My server being read only b/c I don't want a virus
wrapping out my photos. After an hour importing 700+ picture, iPhoto
gave me an error saying it couldn't write to folder containing the
photos... No shit Sherlock, couldn't they check before trying to
import the photos and wasted an hour of my time... Fucking Mac!!!

why do macs rebel against real work?

So its been a little while since i've been on a project that requires a "complicated" flash file (i guess complicated to mac is having more that 5 layers in a timeline).... not even 40 minutes into working, i try to move a shape and it crashes on me.

you know i was just getting to a point of not wanting to chuck this thing out the window, and now i realized it's because i haven't really been doing any "real" work on it.... our IT guy left........... no one will save you now mac... NO ONE!

... nearly a month later....

The bf's Macbook Pro was brought into Carbon Computing AGAIN...

The Symptoms:
Random shut downs, usually when the battery isn't charged all the way. It seems to stay on for the most part if it's fully charged and plugged in. But when it's half charged and plugged in, the computer doesn't always recognize the power, and even tho the little light on the adapter is green or orange, it doesn't actually charge, then shuts down. When it powers back up again, the power % says 0% then shoots to 20%.

So what do they do? They plug it in, switch it on, let it run, "do some tests", decide there's nothing wrong with it because they can't recreate the problem. They didn't even write down that the problem occurred most often when the it wasn't fully charged!! even tho it was clearly explained to them.

They also forget to call again, claiming that they did 4 days prior to us checking in.

We go in and explain it all over again to another guy... oh, well, it's gotta be a software problem! it can't possibly be the logic board EVEN THO THIS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE THEY REPLACED IT! are you seriously telling me that a computer which never had this problem before suddenly just developed a software problem within the hour that it came back from the shop after they replace the logic board?? OK so maybe it's not the logic board, but come on, seriously does this not sound suspicious to anyone else??

... call back tomorrow at 3:30 they say... we call back, they guy is away "sick" call back tomorrow after noon they say... we call back, they're running the tests "right now"... call back tomorrow .... this was 2 days ago... still no computer... still no resolution... still no phone call.

I suppose they're going to charge another 50$ for doing *$&% all.

Yes, Carbon Computing.

... it continues

They fixed the bfs mac... AND FORGET TO CALL HIM! When he calls them they say "it's been fixed since Monday, just sitting here on the shelf. How strange that no one called you. Ya, it's ready to go...." They replaced the logic board and the video card for FREE! He even got a refund onthe 50$ assessment fee.

So, why didn't this post end here? Well it's because.......

His computer shuts down randomly now! WOO HOO!

So, back to the store for another 2 weeks without his Mac.

Apparently it's a known problem.. this article is about 13" macbooks

why don't mac techs know what they're talking about??

Turns out that Apple has extended their warranty for the graphics card to three years even if your MacBook's warranty has expired...

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/05/30/apple_extends_old_macbook_pro_graphics_warranty_to_three_years.html

The guy at the licensed Apple dealer had no freaking clue! Funny thing is that you can't just bring your Apple to any old store they have to be these specialty tech shops, and they still have no clue. When we called bk to tell them about the article, the guy on the phone says "oh, yea, sorry there must have been a misunderstanding... we'll replace it if it's the graphics card" uh misunderstanding?? what was there to MIS-understand??! you right out told us that the whole computer had to be replaced if it was the video card because it was a known issue with Nvidia and they weren't going to do anything about it! and even told us the steps that we would have to take to sweet talk Apple into POSSIBLY replacing it for us! bah!

... AH HA! NOT JUST MINE ...continued....

after having to ride though a SERIOUSLY SCARY neighbourhood to get to the mac dealer in town due to closed main roads fearing that i was going to get snatched by some drunk man on the street in broad daylight, we heard the sad pre-diagnostic...

THE VIDEO CARD IS DEAD! and get this... the tech guy says that it's a known problem and NVIDIA won't take responsibility saying that apple should have made stronger fans to cool their graphics cards, therefore they will NOT replace them. AND APPLE WON'T REPLACE THEM IF THE COMPUTER'S WARRENTY IS EXPIRED!!!

ARE YOU FREAKING SERIOUS?!?!?!??!?!!?

both companies KNOW that there are computers out there that they have sold as "TOP OF THE LINE COMPUTERS" for OVER FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS EACH. and neither companies are taking responibility for it!! neither companies are recalling the computers, and the tech said that they won't fix the problem. we could TRY to call them to ask, but likelihood is that they won't since they haven't been, AND IT'S GOING TO COST THE PRICE OF THE COMPUTER TO FIX BECAUSE THE DAMN VIDEO CARD IS BUILT INTO THE LOGIC BOARD!!!

and... uh... can someone pls remind me again? WHY MAC?????
